Frequently Asked Questions

What is Open Enrollment?

Open enrollment is a period each year when you can apply for health insurance coverage for the following year. Open enrollment is from November 1 to January 15 every year.

If I miss Open Enrollment, can I still get health insurance?

If you've missed the Open Enrollment, there are some situations where you can still apply for health insurance coverage. If you have a qualifying life event, you can apply during a Special Enrollment Period which will start after your qualifying life event and last for 60 days (about 2 months). If you do not have a life event, then you will have to wait until the next Open Enrollment.

Do I qualify for a Special Enrollment period?

Life events that make you eligible for changing health insurances outside the Open Enrollment include:

  • Job loss and loss of benefits
  • Getting married
  • Gaining a dependent or becoming one
  • Death of a member of your household
  • Relocation to a new zip code
  • Turning 26 and losing coverage from your parents' plan
  • Newly gained citizenship
  • Newly released from incarceration
  • Recently admitted to a federally recognized indigenous tribe

Do I have non-COBRA options for my health insurance plan?

Yes! Our specialists can walk you through all of your options, which includes short term coverage, coverage under a spouse's plan, and more. A quick call can help demystify the process for you.

What is PPO insurance?

Preferred provider organization insurance is a type of coverage where a network of approved medical providers contract with the insurance company to offer lower cost to policy holders. PPOs allow for flexibility to see both in network and out of network providers

What is HMO insurance?

Health maintenance organization insurance is similar to PPO insurance. However, in an HMO plan you are required to have a primary care physician who must provide you with referrals to see specialists and all physicians must be in-network.

What is EPO insurance?

Exclusive provider organization insurance, like HMO, only covers visits to in-network providers except in situations of emergency care. However, you do not need to have a primary care physician, nor do you need referrals to see specialists.

What is POS insurance?

Point of service insurance is an insurance plan that requires you to have a primary care physician and get referrals from them every time you go to see a specialist. This plan also covers some out of network providers.
